PMHS Seniors Marin Caiola, Maddie Horner, Charles Johnson and Grace Kiamie Named Rotary Scholars of the Month

The Rotary Club of the Pelhams recognized Pelham Memorial High School seniors Marin Caiola, Maddie Horner, Charles Johnson and Grace Kiamie as Marilyn Stiefvater Scholars of the Month for September and October at  recent Rotary meeting.

Marin Caiola Is a member of the National Honor Society as well as the Math, English, Social Studies, Science and Spanish honor societies. She started an after school program called We Are STEM to empower and teach young girls about fields of science. She has been a Research Assistant and Laboratory Intern at New York University’s Department of Medicine, working on a study evaluating the effect of obesogen exposure at the World Trade Center site due to the 9/11attack. She is an accomplished rower and captain of the Pelham varsity team. Her volunteer activities include work with Project CHILDD, an outreach program supporting children with disabilities,

Maddie Horner Is a member of the National Honor Society as well as the Math, English, Social Studies, Science and Italian honor societies. She is an Advanced Placement Scholar with Distinction and won the National Italian Exam Gold medal this year. Her science research presentation has been on cardiovascular mechanical support devices used in heart transplants. She shadowed a cardiovascular surgeon and watched multiple surgeries. She is captain of the varsity swim team. Recently she won the Con Edison Scholastic Sports Award.

Charles Johnson, a National Merit Semifinalist, is a member of the National Honor Society as well as the Math, English, Social Studies, Science and Spanish honor societies. He is an Advanced Placement Scholar with Distinction. His science research projects have targeted robotics and sustainability and he has explored the use of artificial intelligence for hydropower dam functioning. He is a volunteer in algebra and chemistry for student athletes in Mt Vernon who are getting ready for college. He is co-found of the PMHS Entrepreneurs Club and plays tennis and lacrosse.

Grace Kiamie, a National Merit Commended Scholar, is a member of the National Honor Society as well as the Tri-M Music, Math, English, Social Studies and Science honor societies. She won first place in Physics at the Somers Science Fair andi won the Ingenuity in Math, Physics and Astronomy Award at the Westchester Science and Engineering Fair. She is the musical director of the Acapelicans and founder of the Women in STEM club.She is a dedicated member of Sock-n-Buskin drama club, an avid runner and captain the varsity tennis team. She works with Pelham Children’s Theater and is a well know vocalist, plays piano and guitar.

Rotary Club of the Pelhams recognizes two Scholars of the Month each month during th school year and awards a $15,000 scholarship to a graduating PMHS senior in June.
