PMHS Seniors Adrianna Lulaj and Sadie Ashlock Named Rotary Scholars of the Month
Rotary Club of the Pelhams recognized PMHS Seniors Adrianna Lulaj and Sadie Ashlock as Marilyn Stiefvater Scholars of the Month for January.
PMHS Principal Sean Llewelyn, a member of Rotary, introduced the two scholars:
Adrianna Lulaj is active in Science Research, athletics, and extracurricular activities. She is a member of National Honor Society as well as Science, Social Studies, Math, and English Honor Societies, the last of which she is also the president of. As a student in the Science Research program, Adrianna has conducted research in Parkinson’s disease and was awarded first place in the Medicine and Health category at the Somers Science Fair. She is a member of the Varsity Volleyball team, president of the Women in STEM Club (as well as ambassador to the international organization), and a member of the Women’s Empowerment Club. Adrianna also coaches youth soccer and has volunteered at Calvary Hospital, Hutchinson Elementary School, as a tutor and peer leader, and at the Polar Plunge of Westchester. In addition, she belongs to an Albanian Folklore Dance Group and plays the piano.
Sadie Ashlock is a member of the National Honor Society as well as the English, Math, Social Studies, Spanish, and Art Honor Societies. Sadie has been a contributor to the DOOR literary magazine since ninth grade. She is an accomplished athlete, and is a member of the varsity cross country, winter, and spring track teams, as well as a captain. She has also participated in the Barracuda Triathlon team for the past four years. As a volunteer, Sadie has tutored English Language Learners and worked at the Hope Soup Kitchen. Sadie enjoys reading and writing fiction, poetry, and short stories as well as ancient European architecture.
In addition to the Scholars of the Month program, Rotary will award a $20,000 scholarship to a graduating PMHS senior. All seniors are eligible to apply for the scholarship; applications will be available at the PMHS Guidance Department.
