Pedestrian Safety Survey, Textile Recycling Program Available on Website

Pelham Manor Mayor Jennifer Monachino Lapey convened the August 17th Board of Trustees meeting, noting the death of Frank Barbieri, 83, who passed away on August 13th. Mr. Barbieri served in the Volunteer Fire Department for approximately 30 years, rising to the rank of Lieutenant and was a member of the American Legion.
Lapey then announced the passing of Donna DelPonte, 57, who passed away on August 8th. “I would like to extend my deepest sympathy to both families,” Lapey stated.
Next, Deputy Mayor/Trustee Breda Bennett said that a Pedestrian and Traffic Safety Survey was open on website (pelhammanor.gov/273/ Road-Safety-Starts-With-You), adding that a user-friendly Textile Recycling Program is also available at helpsy.com/pickup.
Police Chief Greg Sancho remarked that their department participates in the AAA Northeast Community Traffic Safety Awards Program, earning Bronze Award recognition.
Sancho discussed e-bikes and e-scooters, giving tips to keep riders safe. “E-bikes and e-scooters must be operated by individuals 16 years of age or older. Helmets are required for those aged 16 and 17. Those riders are not permitted on sidewalks and they must follow all NYS traffic laws and yield to pedestrians.”
Village Manager Lindsey Luft rendered the Financial Report: The Fund Balance at the end of July was $19 million and Real Property Taxes was $15 million.
The first Public Hearing included a Special Permit Application for Pelham Parking LLC for storage of buses and other vehicles in the Canal Road area. There is a 3% fee increase over terms of the permit for three years.
The Second Special Permit pertains to 5 Canal Road LLC. According to Luft, the Board in May referred the application to the Planning Board to be reviewed. A bus company in Mount Vernon is looking for an additional maintenance site. Trucks can only turn right on Pelham Parkway into Mount Vernon. Only one oversized bus can be stored there at a time. Lastly, there is no overnight storage of electric buses. Both motions were approved.
