Project Community's Color Run Hosts Over 600 Participants

Project Community’s Color Run on Sunday, May 19 was once again a tremendous success. This unique and exciting fundraiser has become a staple event each spring for hundreds of individuals and families in Pelham. This Spring was to be no different: the bursts of vibrant color, the boundless energy of participants, the food, the music, the celebration, the camaraderie, the community coming together for a great cause. A very special guest was in attendance – New York State Senator Nathalia Fernandez – providing support and encouragement to the participants, and volunteer members of Project Community.

According to Dr. Anne Frost, Founder & President of Project Community, “Each year, our Project Community Color Run is a celebration of families uniting with their community to support innovative and proven programs for children with special needs and for the mental health of our tweens and teens.”

Crossing the finish line decorated in a rainbow of colors were whole families from babies in strollers to children, teens, parents, and grandparents. They passed under a giant rainbow arch of balloon’s to the sound of victorious music played by the DJ. Participants were cheered along the route by neighbors who set out chairs to enjoy the joyful spectacle. A crowd of supporters also applauded at the finish line while offering bottles of water. A celebratory party followed the fun-run in the Siwanoy School’s playground.

It truly was a fabulous celebration for the community to share a fun-filled event while helping an organization like Project Community who is dedicated to addressing gaps in knowledge to prevent social isolation for children with special needs and work with teens to address anxiety, depression, binge drinking, and sexual assault. Benevolent support came from a variety of sources: corporate sponsorships, auction item donors, individual and family contributions, countless hours of volunteer time, and much more.

There were celebrities providing tremendous support, as well. On May 11, the Color Run Kick Off Party & Fundraiser featured celebrity auctioneer Zak DeOssie – the two-time Super Bowl Champion for the New York Giants. Exclusive auction items included summer vacations on Montauk, LI, and Newport, RI … golf trips … MVP Box Seats and Suites at Yankee Stadium and Mets CitiField, and many, many more.  At the Color Run on May 19, New York State Senator Nathalia Fernandez also presented Project Community’s two “Awards of the Heart” to PMHS students Haiden Wolf and Marin Caiola for their outstanding volunteer service in assisting Project Community attain its goals for the welfare of the entire community. A special acknowledgement was also made to PMHS student Sydney Paulose who came in first place in the Color Run T-Shirt Design Competition.

Stay tuned for more Project Community’s programs, projects and events throughout the year.
