Eagle Scout Honored; Red Light Cameras Approved for Pelhamdale Avenue and Boston Post Road at Village of Pelham Manor Meeting

Pelham Manor Mayor Jennifer Monachino Lapey opened a virtual Board of Trustees meeting on January 10th . 

“Prior to the holidays, Village Administrator John Pierpont and I attended a Zoom call with the New York State Thruway Authority,” Lapey said.  “We received commitments from the Thruway Authority to monitor and maintain their drainage systems,” Pierpont added.  “They have removed all organic debris that was in their channels, trees and excavated silt. Those drainage channels discharge off of Thruway property to Pelham Bay Park and onto railroad property.”  Pierpont suggested contacting Congressman Jamaal Bowman to get Amtrak to drain their channels.

The Board motioned to close Public Hearing regarding Local Law 6 of 2021, Use of Red-Light Cameras on Pelhamdale Avenue and Boston Post Road, which was later approved. Trustee Maurice Owen-Michaane assured the public that the pictures will be reviewed by “two real humans” before sending the photos over to the Police. 

Next, Lapey presented a Proclamation to Eagle Scout Sanjay Seecharran who built a footbridge over a flood zone, 18 feet long with a ramp at the abandoned railroad Highbrook Highline, a two-acre park and community trail in Pelham.  The bridge is also used by Girl Scouts in their Bridging Ceremony.

Bennett reported 481 incidents in December and recent Four Corners Burglary.  Police Chief Jeffrey Carpenter said that the investigation is ongoing, pending results from the Westchester County Lab.  A bicycle accident outside of Prospect Hill School resulted in a student sustaining a broken leg.  School Resource Officer, Detective Jason Carroll mentioned that the AAA is willing to come to the school and discuss bicycle safety. 

In the November Treasurer’s Report, Pierpont pointed to a $100,000 expense in Traffic Control, representing a Pedestrian Signal at Boston Post Road and Esplanade; a request for a grant to offset the expense was filed.
