On December 4th, the members of Project Community hosted their annual Holiday Party for kids with special needs and their parents at the Pelham Country Club.
As part of its innovative program Project CHILDD (Community Help In Learning about Developmental Disabilities) this initiative gives participants (ages 3 to young adult) with special needs, encouragement to engage in fun, social activities with their peers, and supervising nurses and teen mentors.
According to Camille Drago, RN, Project CHILDD Director, “It’s so rewarding to see the incredible amount of love and camaraderie among all the kids. The party brings out the true spirit of Christmas, as we all share a fun afternoon of bowling, refreshments, music, dancing and other exciting activities.”
Fellow Project CHILDD Clinical Director Joanne Rooney, RN, MA, CFNP (Montefiore Group) continued, “We all witnessed how remarkable these kids are, and how much their confidence has grown since being a part of Project CHILDD.”
Anne Frost, PhD, RN, Founder & President, Project Community added, “I am so proud of our dedicated nurses and teen mentors for their loyal friendship and expert guidance. And we are extremely grateful to the many benevolent members of our community who come together throughout the year with so much support and love for our organization and programs. It’s a wonderful inspiration for us all! And if you are a teen looking for a wonderful opportunity to become a mentor in our programs, contact us today. We’d love to have you on board!”
Project Community is Pelham’s only volunteer organization that is spearheaded by expert healthcare professionals, dedicated to support family life by providing “Knowledge to Navigate” to tackle relevant issues with insights and answers through six innovative programs such as Project CHILDD and a variety of events, such as the ever-popular COLOR RUN.
