Get ready to dance the night away at Pelham’s social highlight of the year: The Pelham Civics Annual Dinner Dance Gala on October 14th at the Surf Club.
Two longtime Pelham Civic officers will be this year’s honorees as Persons of the Year: Michael Volpe and Philip Carfora.
Founded in 1939, The Pelham Civic Association is one of New York State’s most active volunteer, charitable organizations – dedicated to assisting the youth/students, elderly, mentally & physically challenged and financially needy. The proceeds of the fundraiser help fuel their many programs and events, including Help a Child, Change a Life…Good Neighbor Program … Scholarship/Community Awards…High School Career Workshops…Summer Olympics…Social & Educational Programs for the Elderly…and many more.
About the Honorees:
Michael Volpe has dedicated his adult life to family, his legal practice and public service, is married to the love of his life Eileen. They are proud parents to Kelly, Matt and Marissa and grandparents to Hudson. A law partner at Venable LLP, Michael has worn many hats. Board memberships have included: the Pelham Civic Association, Friends of Pelham Sports, Pelham Little League and Youth Soccer, the New York Athletic Club, and St. Anthony High School. Michael served two 4 years terms as Councilman in the Town of Pelham. In the Village of Pelham, he was Deputy Mayor for 2 years and Mayor for 4 years. He co-founded Hooperstown which served local children and teenagers for years. While devoted to the service to many organizations for years, working to make the community better for all residents has been Michael’s passion.
Philip Carfora is a longtime resident of Pelham and a member of the Pelham Civic Association for the past twenty–six years. For many years he was Dinner Dance Chairman, redefining the event as a comprehensive major fundraiser, enhancing the coordination of the Gala Dinner, Raffle Sales, Journal Ads, Local & Regional Public Awareness, and selection of Persons of the Year. A visionary Pelham Civic Vice-President of Fundraising, he provided years of financial leadership and commitment to all development and fundraising programs and events. Phil is an inspirational leader and mentor, addressing every challenge with a positive, passionate and infectious attitude, demonstrating genuine care and concern for what’s right for the Civics and the Pelham community. He is currently Portfolio Manager for Signature Bank in the Asset Based Group. Phil has also coached girls softball and soccer for many years.
