Zsuzsanna Baan-Jonas and Carolyn Gallaher, co-chairs of the The Women’s Club of Larchmont’s philanthropy committee, along with Sheelah Mohan and Georgia Jesse began to fill their cars with donations for the Hope Food Pantry in New Rochelle. During the monthly Club meetings donations are collected from members, but on Saturday, November 6, 2021, donations also came in from community members, some who saw the cars and The Woman’s Club banner.

The two hours were marked with a sense of shared commitment and fellowship as conversation groups formed around open trunks, dissolved, reformed with newcomers and continued beyond the 1:00pm end time. Extra bags were brought in with such comments as “My sister wanted to help,” or “My neighbor sent this.”

Over 415 items were collected and taken to Hope. Sr. Mary Alice and other workers were delighted with all they received, especially seven packages of diapers and 39 boxes of much in demand cereals.

The Club’s next community food drives will be Saturdays, February 12, and June 4, 2022. The Woman’s Club appreciates the support of the community in this philanthropic effort because the demand at Hope Food Pantry has increased over threefold in the past 2 years.
