Pelham Manor Mayor Jennifer Monachino Lapey opened the Tuesday, May 26th, recognizing seventh-grader Sloane Varmley, a member of Girl Scout Troop Number 1567, who received the Girl Scout Silver Award for organizing a Homework Club Tutoring Program for Pelham Special Education Students, inspired by her brother, who said that he had trouble doing his homework.
Mayor Lapey then noted the recent passing of Pelham Memorial High School graduate Timothy Muganzi Magambo, 18, who was just starting his educational career at SUNY Albany.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family,” Lapey said.
Deputy Mayor Breda Bennett averred that the Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 25th was cancelled due to rain, “but it certainly did not dampen the spirits of those who attended the Ceremony at Daronco Town Hall. It was a beautiful, touching, and solemn ceremony, remembering those who gave the ultimate sacrifice to allow us to enjoy the freedoms that we do. Former Town Supervisor Dan McLaughlin was the Grand Marshall and Keynote Speaker was Town Historian Art Scinta.
Our colleagues in local government included Assemblywoman Amy Paulin, County Executive Ken Jenkins and County Legislator Terry Clements,” Bennett concluded.
Next was recognition of Pelham Manor Police Officer Frank Lynch. “Village Manager Lindsey Luft brought to our attention that Officer Lynch just completed a program which the Police Department recommended and Board approved. Officer Lynch is a third-year student at Pace University School of Law. He is an editor on the Law Review and was awarded a Federal judicial externship. I want to congratulate him on completing the externship and we are happy to have him back.”
According to the Police Report, April was a busy month. “We made 34 arrests and had 351 incidents. We also had a larceny due to an unlocked vehicle; stolen vehicles are on the rise countywide. Just a reminder to please lock your cars, remove those key fobs and don’t leave personal objects in plain view,” Sancho stressed.
Finally, Treasurer Kyle Booth pointed out that the Fund Balance is approximately $8 million.
