Hazard Mitigation Key Topic at Village Board Meeting

Village of Pelham Mayor Chance Mullen called the Tuesday, May 26th Board meeting to order, beginning with Trustee Allison Anderson stating that she wanted residents to know that Pelham is participating in Westchester County’s update of the multi-jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan.
“This is a plan that helps communities prepare for natural hazards, strengthen emergency response and protect residents and property. The County is asking residents across Westchester to complete a short survey. We encourage participation so that Pelham’s perspectives and priorities are reflected in this Westchester Plan.
Resident feedback is very important not only for planning purposes but also for maintaining eligibility for critical State and Federal resilience and hazard mitigation funding.
The survey link is available on the front page of the Village website, found under Village News. There is also a post on the Village Facebook page.”
Trustee Krystal Howell presented updates from the Fire Department and Arts Council, stating that she attended the Regional Emergency Medical Services (EMS) awards on May 21st, with Fire Chief Robert Benkwitt. “There were a lot of honors for EMS and First Responders,” Howell observed. “The Arts Council is planning for Juneteenth, celebrated on Friday, June 19th, 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. If anyone wants to help, they can reach out to me.
The Saturday Movie Series is scheduled in the Park, July 25th, August 8th, August 22nd and September 19th which is a question mark. I want to say that the Town had a great Memorial Day Ceremony, not letting the rain interrupt it. It was quite an emotional day, remembering those who sacrificed their lives for our freedom.”
Trustee Russell Solomon said that he attended the New York Conference of Mayors (NYCOM) Annual Meeting. “On the Employee Relations Committee which I sit on, were two issues; first there was pension reform and the other was EMS funding.”
Non-Recurring Items encompassed a Resolution Amending section 90-49 Schedule X: No Parking Any Time as authorized by Section 90-15 to Create No Parking on West Side of Ninth Avenue from Lincoln Avenue to Park Place; Authorizing the Renewal of Grant Consulting Agreement with Millenium Strategies LLC involving flood mitigation.
