25 mph Speed Limit in Effect
At the May 28 Board of Trustees meeting, the Pelham Manor Board of Trustees adopted Local Law 1 of 2024 (PDF). This local law accomplished many things and builds upon a long standing history of public safety initiatives. Leading up to the adoption of Local Law 1 of 2024, feedback was gathered from our consulting traffic engineer, Pelham Manor operations staff, executive staff of the elementary schools, and numerous residents. Guidance was additionally sought from the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devised for Streets and Highways, including the New York State Supplement, and the Cornell Local Roads Program. This process spanned roughly eight months.
The law has been certified by New York State, and the regulations become effective as soon as the signage is in place. Pelham Manor DPW crews will be steadily implementing the new signage. Some signage also requires painting on the street, which will be completed once all of the signs are placed. Please be on the lookout for new traffic regulations Village-wide.
One of the most significant changes in regulations is the Village-wide speed limit. On all Pelham Manor roads, the maximum speed limit is now 25 mph. On certain streets around the elementary schools, the speed limit is now 15 mph. The only roads that remain at 30 mph are roads that are maintained by either Westchester County or New York State. These exceptions are most notably Boston Post Road and Shore Road.
We strongly encourage all motorists to make an effort to reduce their speed to be in compliance.
