Celebrating its Centennial year and an almost 20-year history of domestic and international summer youth mission trips, Huguenot Memorial Church dodged the rain and joined forces with The Pelham Rotary this year to support the over 100,000 residents of Puerto Rico still without power and fresh water six months after the devastation of Hurricane Maria. Families and businesses in the Pelham affected by the loss of power during the winter could especially appreciate how unsettling six (6) months without power must be.
All of the proceeds generated from the two races this year will go directly to the Rotary’s Puerto Rico Disaster Relief Project. Two Rotary Clubs in Puerto Rico have been on-the-ground daily for the past 6 months reaching out to families with LuminAid solar powered lamps and Sawyer Water Filtration Kits to provide temporary light and clean drinking water.
LuminAID lamps were given to the top three finishers in the Male and Female categories for The Adult and The Youth (16 and Under) 5K races; and the Kid’s (10 and Under) 1/2 mile run. There was also an opportunity to Walk the 3.1 mile course with friends this year in support of this effort.
For those who were able to Walk or Run on May 12th but want to donate to the cause, send a check to: HUGUENOT MEMORIAL CHURCH (901 Pelhamdale Ave. Pelham Manor, NY 10803) with “Rotary Puerto Rico Disaster Relief”on memo line.
