Chance Mullen, Democratic Party Nominee for Village of Pelham Board of Trustees Statement

Hello Pelham! My name is Chance Mullen and I am running for Village Trustee because I want to help move Pelham forward.

My family and I moved here about five years ago, and we love it. My son, Finnegan, is a second grader at Hutchinson Elementary School. My wife, Francile, is the Director of Education at the Picture House. I volunteer my time and talents for projects at Hutch, Pelham Civics, and The Picture House. I'm a Cub Scout den leader and I coach Rec Soccer and Little League. These experiences have given me the chance to get to know my neighbors and hear about our village from many different perspectives. Professionally, I have a background unlike anyone else on the board.

I think that’s an asset. I earned my Master’s Degree in Fine Arts from the University of Washington. As a commercial actor and film producer, I’ve managed crews and budgets both large and small, I’ve worked on both sides of union contracts, and I understand how to solve a problem creatively, when you can’t just throw money at it.

For the last five years, I’ve worked in Human Resources at the Ford Foundation, a global philanthropy, where I find ways to ensure that any decision we make is inclusive and reflective of the different perspectives that exist in our organization. I believe the board needs to get better at engaging this community in the work that it’s doing, and I am advocating for a new comprehensive plan, with robust input from residents in our Village. I believe we should embrace film, commercial and television production, which is booming throughout Westchester and could offer our Village an additional source of revenue. And finally, I believe we need to adopt policies that are focused on sustainability, so that we can ensure that the Village we hand over to our children is as healthy and vibrant as it is today. My goal is to bring new ideas to the table, truly engage our community, and responsibly revitalize our Village so we can grow together with a sense of pride and common purpose.

I love this Village. It’s my son’s hometown. I hope you give me the opportunity to serve it.
